I found out about the grants program when about a year and a half into my school career, I was working as a School Age Educator and my director at the time shared the program flyer with the staff. I was eligible based on my experience and the college I was attending part-time while working two jobs to make full time hours. I found that it was a great help to pay for the program as I also had two school age children and a house to pay for. Financially it was a huge burden that was lifted from my shoulders. The process to apply was easy and my directors and supervisors were very supportive of my schoolwork.
I was promoted to Site Supervisor during my school career and then to School Age Director before I completed my studies. My career went faster than my schooling, however my Regional Manager encouraged me to complete my ECE even though it was not required in my new role. As a supervisor and director, I encouraged my staff to partake in the grant program so they could upgrade their education and turn their jobs into careers.
